Disclosure: Pull & Pour received coffee samples for this post, however, as always, all opinions are 100% my own.
Over the past month, I’ve been working through the 24 coffees found in the 2021 Onyx Coffee Advent calendar. It’s an incredibly impressive variety of coffee and truthfully there hasn’t been a single one I haven’t enjoyed. I’m always a sucker for a solid naturally processed Ethiopian coffee though, so I wanted to highlight Day #11, Ethiopia Basha Bekele, with a full review.
The coffee began with a very sweet fragrance that reminded me of tropical fruit and berries. The flavor was incredibly intense with pronounced fruit-forward berry sweetness and flavor notes that reminded me of raspberry & subtle florals. The acidity was crisp and strong throughout. The coffee had a light, staccato mouthfeel that was crisp and lingered into the long, bright finish.
The Bottom Line
The complex fruit notes, underlying florals, and intense sweetness made this natural Ethiopian a real treat to enjoy. I especially enjoyed how it featured the strong sweetness and berry notes I love in a good naturally processed Ethiopian coffee, but also wasn’t entirely one-dimensional and also featured wonderful floral support.
