Pros
The Geisha variety can range quite a bit in quality and price, but when you find a good one, it’s incredibly special and well worth the higher price tag. While I’ve had a good variety of geishas over the years, I am not sure I’ve ever had one from Honduras before. My first experience with this Honduran Geishan from Theordore’s Coffee definitely ticked off a lot of what I look for with a geisha—beautiful florals, complex flavor profile, and a lush mouthfeel.
The coffee began with a clean, crisp & melon-forward fragrance. The flavor was delicious with notes of berries, sweet florals, and chocolate. The acidity was refined & quite bright with a crispness that reminded me of biting into a honeycrisp apple. The mouthfeel was full and rich with a chocolate-toned sweetness paired with fruit supports. Even with all of the complexity in the profile, the profile was incredibly clean—a characteristic I’ve come to enjoy so much with the best washed coffees (especially with so many funky anaerobic coffees on the market nowadays).
The Bottom Line
This was a very special coffee that I really enjoyed exploring. Its clean, complex, and crisp profile was a treat to enjoy and was a great first experience with a Honduran Geisha.
