Methodical Coffee has been on my list of roasters to try for years, so I was excited to finally buy a bag of their coffee in a style that has become a favorite of mine over the past few months—naturally processed Central American coffees.
This El Salvadorian coffee began with a fragrance of dried fruit, chocolate and tropical fruit. The aroma grew in sweetness during brewing and was quite fragrant after brewing. In the flavor I tasted notes that reminded me of berries, chocolate, citrus and more subtle tropical fruit (specifically pineapple). The coffee had a very crisp and sharp brightness at the front that receded into a lighter, sweeter profile as the coffee cooled. The mouthfeel was incredibly smooth with a medium body. It had a lovely sweet-tart sweetness and a citrus finish that was light, bright and lifted the weight of the coffee at the end of each sip.
The Bottom Line
My first experience with Methodical was an excellent one and added another coffee to my growing list of excellent Central American coffees I have tried over the last year. The depth of layered flavors and the evolution from dark berries notes to light, bright citrus made this coffee a lot of fun to enjoy.
