Pros
Golden Lantern is a roastery led by Matt Rosenblum in Orange County, California. They recently went through a rebranding and the new identity and packaging is beautiful, sophisticated, and helps elevate the entire coffee experience. This rich and decadent naturally processed Costa Rican stood out as a really special coffee that paired perfectly with the new and elevated branding.
The coffee began with a sweet, rich chocolate and vanilla fragrance with subtle berry notes supporting it. The flavor was luxurious with notes of rich berries and chocolate. The body was heavy with a silky mouthfeel and a steady, yet somewhat sharp acidity that played a nice supporting role throughout every sip. The sweetness was chocolate-toned with accompanying berry and fruit notes. I really enjoyed the play between chocolate and berries through every sip that added a nice richness and complexity to the cup.
The Bottom Line
Naturally- and honey-processed Costa Rican coffees have become a favorite for me recently. Their rich profile and complex flavor profile are always a pleasure to brew. This Costa Rican from Golden Lantern fits in this same vein and was a treat to enjoy.
