Yonder Coffee is a subscription service that delivers coffee each month from roasters around the world. It consistently delivers some of my favorite coffee each month and helps me discover new roasters, origins, and styles of coffee. The July 2021 featured roaster was Hatch Crafted from Toronto, Canada. The coffee I received was a naturally processed coffee from the West Java region of Indonesia. It was a beautifully complex coffee with a lovely mix of tropical fruit and berries.

The coffee began with a sweet, slightly boozy fragrance that reminded me of overripe fruit. The flavor was incredible with notes of tropical fruit and berries coming to the forefront and subtle chocolate undertones. It was layered, rich, and incredibly sweet. The body was on the lighter side, but the mouthfeel was smooth, rich, and decadent. Every sip left a lingering fruit-toned finish that ended in some subtle floral and chocolate notes. The coffee had a subtle funkiness common in naturally processed coffees which added to the complexity and uniqueness of every brew. There was a beautiful layering of flavors and evolution throughout every cup as the coffee cooled.

The Bottom Line

Ciwidey was yet another stellar coffee I’ve received from Yonder. Its fruit-forward flavor, intense sweetness, and rich complexity made it one of my favorite coffees to drink this summer.
