Pros

  • Rich & lush profile
  • A bit untamed and unexpected

Guatemala is one of my favorite coffee origins because of the diversity of profiles you can get from the single origin as a result of their micro-climates. This washed Guatemalan coffee was quite unique and a lot of fun to explore.

The coffee began with a fragrance that was rich and balanced with notes of chocolate, leather and honey. The coffee was a bit untamed (in a good way) and had some lovely caramel sweetness. In the flavor I tasted notes of honey, tobacco and dark berries. The berry notes became much more pronounced as the coffee cooled with notes of blackberries coming to the forefront. The acidity was a bit muted with a full body and lush mouthfeel. The finish had a lingering tobacco sweetness.

The Bottom Line

This was a rich, lush coffee that had some lovely sweetness and some unexpected characteristics. It was a lot of fun to explore and a nice example of the variety that can come out of Guatemala.
