Pros

  • Sweetness
  • Mix of citrus and floral notes throughout

Cons

  • Slightly more muted attributes

Anchorhead is a roaster based in Seattle who I have been impressed with in the past. This coffee comes from the Gedeb District in Ethiopia and is produced by a woman named Bedhatu Jibicho who has been managing the farm for over 50 years.

The coffee begins with an aroma filled with floral overtones and more subtle citrus undertones. As I began drinking the coffee the citrus and floral notes carried through and I tasted orange, lime and lavender. The flavor has a creamy sugar sweetness that lingers throughout. The body is silky, smooth and tea-like.

The coffee has a nice balance of flavors with a citrus acidity at the front of each sip that presents itself again in the aftertaste with a sparkle that slowly fades.

I really enjoyed this coffee in a variety of brew methods and I thought its attributes carried well between pour over, immersion and pressure brew methods.

The Bottom Line

This coffee surprised and delighted. While a bit more muted and delicate than many of its Ethiopian siblings, it has a lot to offer and is a great option to try if you are looking for a little variety in your African coffees.
