Christmas has so many classic flavors and I wanted to explore mixing some of them together to create a seasonal coffee drink. The result is a punchy one with bold rosemary aromatics and flavors with wonderful sweetness support from the orange, cranberries and simple syrups. Enjoy at the holidays or anytime during the year!
AeroPress Christmas Coffee
A fun recipe with lots of those classic Christmas flavors mixed in. If you like rosemary this is especially a good one to try!
Ingredients
For Simple Syrup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar or sugar of choice
- 1/2 cup water
- 10-20 cranberries
- 1 orange
- 1 sprig rosemary
For Coffee
- 18 grams coffee
- 280 grams water
- 1 sprig rosemary
- 5 cranberries from prepared simple syrup
- 1 orange
Instructions
Simple Syrup
- Add equal parts brown sugar & water to a pot (½ cup of each is perfect).
- Add rosemary sprig, 10-20 cranberries & orange peel.
- Stir to mix and allow mixture to boil for 10-15 minutes. It should thicken, but not become too thick as it will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Strain into a glass (saving the cranberries for later!)
AeroPress Coffee
- Grind 18g of coffee to a medium fine setting
- Prepare AeroPress in upright position and add ground coffee
- Add a spring of rosemary, orange zest and cranberries from simple syrup into AeroPress on top of coffee grounds
- Add ~80-100g of 200°F (93°C) water and stir aggressively making sure to fully incorporate all elements and fully saturate all coffee grounds with water.
- Add remaining water (to a total of 280g) to AeroPress.
- Add plunger to AeroPress to create a vacuum and stop dripping.
- Allow coffee to brew for 3 minutes.
- Slowly push down on the plunger over the course of 45-60 seconds.
- Mix in the simple syrup to taste & enjoy!
Notes
The simple syrup is optional. It sweetens the coffee and boosts the Christmas flavors, but the coffee is excellent on its own. If you leave out the simple syrup, you can either use crushed cranberries or cooked cranberries in the AeroPress during brewing
