While Tanzania sits fairly close geographically to some of my favorite coffee origins in east Africa, I am not sure I have ever had a Tanzania coffee that really blew me away. That is until this washed Mbeya Mimba from Roadmap CoffeeWorks. I was incredibly impressed with this coffee and it’s likely the best Tanzania coffee I’ve ever had.
The coffee has a balanced, sweet fragrance of rich stone fruit, raisins & dark chocolate. The flavor profile is incredibly vibrant & complex with notes of raisins, stone fruit, berries, chocolate, and subtle florals all mixing together. The crisp acidity carried much of the same vibrancy from the flavor and lingered long into the finish. I loved the rich, full mouthfeel of the coffee that was syrupy and thick with every sip. As the coffee cooled, it had a wonderful evolution and became a bit lighter and more delicate with more of the floral notes coming through.
The Bottom Line
This coffee was delicious and represented the high potential of what’s possible with Tanzanian coffee. It was roasted beautifully to bring out the complexities of the coffee and I can’t wait to enjoy the rest of this bag.
