Disclosure: Pull & Pour received coffee samples for this post, however, as always, all opinions are 100% my own.
A good classic Kenyan is hard to beat. The bright, vibrant profile with the berry & citrus flavor calls and savory-sweet juiciness is unlike anything else you’ll find in specialty coffee. This Ngarutua Kenyan from Morningsong Coffee Roasters ticks all of those boxes and has quickly become one of my favorite Kenyan coffees of the past year.
The nose on the coffee reminded me of sweet raisins and grapefruit. The flavor profile hits all of the expected notes of a classic Kenyan with strong citrus grapefruit, jammy blackberries & a savory, yet richly sweet body that was lush and full. In addition to the expected citrus and berries, it also has hints of tropical fruit throughout, which add some nice complexity and depth to the coffee. Its acidity was vibrant and full of crisp citrus. The finish lingered at every sip and was richly sweet.
The Bottom Line
This has been a delightful Kenyan to enjoy. I’ve brewed through it with a variety of filter brew methods, as well as espresso. It has great depth and I think I enjoyed it a bit more with every brew.
