This coffee from The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf comes from one of Ethiopia’s biggest coffee-producing regions, Yirgacheffe. It’s a big, bold Ethiopian with a lovely mix of chocolate and floral notes.
The coffee begins with a roasty fragrance of chocolate & caramel with floral supports and some underlying sweetness. The flavor after brewing carries much of the same with chocolate being dominant with intense florals and subtle berries. The coffee had a nice lemon citrus acidity and a big, thick body. The smooth, mouthcoating mouthfeel was what I enjoyed most in the coffee. It lingered long into the finish, which sat heavily on your tongue. The coffee lacked a bit of complexity and I would have enjoyed a bit more evolution through each sip, but I did enjoy the combination of chocolate and florals that paired together throughout the sip.
The Bottom Line
The roast is listed as light but is much closer to a third-wave dark roast in my opinion. While this roast level is a bit darker than my personal preference, if you enjoy darker roasted specialty coffee, this is a great option to try for a price per ounce much lower than most other specialty coffee.
