Disclosure: Pull & Pour received coffee samples for this post, however, as always, all opinions are 100% my own.
This past summer I had the opportunity to try a canned “Craft Brew Coffee” from Kaleidoscope. It was excellent and reminded me of the quality I get when I flash brew coffee myself using the Japanese cold brew method. Given how much I enjoyed it, I was excited to try some of their roasted beans in their “Single Origin Sessions” sampler, a set that features 12oz selections from four different single origin coffees. The four pack included an Ethiopia Aricha, Ethiopia Guji, Guatemala Huehuetenango and the coffee this review is focused on, the Brazil Natural. Each coffee was roasted light to medium and could easily be featured in their own reviews. I wanted to focus on this naturally processed Brazilian coffee though because its rich chocolate profile was a great articulation of the origin’s possibilities.
The coffee began was a sweet, crisp fragrance that reminded me of chocolate donuts. After brewing, the coffee was very rich with chocolate, nutty, citrus and dried fruit notes. The acidity was citrus-toned and balanced throughout. The body was quite rich and its full mouthfeel was one of my favorite elements of the coffee. The sweetness was incredibly rich and caramel-toned. As the coffee cooled, it became more pronounced and featured elements of dark fruit. The chocolate was clearly the unifying element of the coffee, but there were other accents along the way that led to a really nice cup.
The Bottom Line
The Single Origin Sessions sampler from Kalidoscope is a great way to try coffees from different origins around the world. This Brazilian coffee was especially exciting and perfect for anyone who enjoys a rich, full profiled coffee.
