Press House Coffee recently came through my feed in Instagram and their fun packaging and branding immediately caught my attention. As I searched through their site, I was intrigued by not only their single origin coffees, but also their fun blends (Blueberry Muffin, Key Lime Pie, and Chillwave to name a few) and Daily Grind (their pre-ground, single-serve packets for French Press featuring different single-origin options). I had a chance to try each style of coffee Press House offers (Tanzanian and Costa Rican Daily Grind, Blueberry Muffin blend and this Kenyan single-origin coffee). Each was unique and delicious, but it was this Kenyan single-origin that really hit the mark for me.

The coffee begins with an incredibly rich and unique fragrance. In it I smelled vegetables (specifically tomato), sweetness, berries and chocolate (I know, quite a combination, right?!). In the flavor, many of those notes carried through. I tasted the tomato, berries, citrus and some subtle floral notes. It had a very balanced acidity that carried throughout each sip. The body was smooth and juicy and the sweetness, while a bit more muted, was full of citrus. The finish lingered and was a great end to every sip. This coffee was so unique and complex given the wide range of aromatic and flavor notes I found in it. It was a great coffee to explore with different brew methods because each one brought a different flavor note to the forefront. While from a very different origin, this coffee reminded me a lot of one of my favorite coffees from last year—El Salvador Hondurita from Sump Coffee. That coffee had very similar flavor notes and, like this one, the really interesting mix of tomato and berries.

The Bottom Line

Kamviu AA was a really fun coffee to explore. It was one of the more delicious and unique Kenyan coffees I’ve tried recently and one I’ll continue to enjoy exploring as I finish the bag. In general, I was really impressed with Press House’s offerings. They have a lot to offer and I think do a really nice job targeting a wide range of customers. They offer top-notch single-origin coffees for coffee snobs, approachable and delicious blends for those less adventurous, and the Daily Grind for those who need a quick coffee option and care a little less about the intricacies of pour over.
