Disclosure: Pull & Pour received coffee samples for this post, however, as always, all opinions are 100% my own.
Naturally processed African coffees are my favorite, so I was very excited to try this one from the Seattle-based roaster, Anchorhead.
This coffee hits you right away with an intense aroma filled with sweet, fruit and floral notes all mixed together. After brewing, the fruit notes became a bit more mild and tasted more of dried fruit than the berry-fruitiness I smelled initially. It had an amazing marshmallow sweetness to it that carried through the aftertaste. It was very bright, though a bit less than a lot of other dry processed African coffees I’ve tried. It has a light body that complimented the flavors and profile of the coffee well.
I think the strongest characteristics of the coffee were its aroma and sweetness. Both were intense, complex and unique. The only criticism I had was simply wanting more in the flavor notes. So many of the characteristics of the coffee were so intense (aroma, acidity, sweetness), I wish the flavor carried the same intensity.
The Bottom Line
This is a very solid coffee with a lot going for it. It is bright, sweet and works well in every brew method I tried from espresso to pour over.
