A Taste of Colombia: Exploring One of Coffee’s Most Dynamic Origins
Colombia has long been one of the most recognizable names in coffee—but what’s happening there right now feels entirely new. Beyond the familiar profile of years ago, Colombian producers are pushing boundaries with processing, varietals, and farm-level experimentation that rivals anywhere in the world.
The Taste of Colombia set was created to capture that moment.
This curated collection brings together eight Colombian coffees from some of the most respected roasters, renowned producers, and exciting processing methods in the world. Each coffee highlights a different producer, region, varietal, or processing style—showcasing just how diverse and expressive Colombian coffee has become. Rather than focusing on a single “Colombian profile,” this set is about contrast, range, and discovery.
Why Colombia, and Why Now?
Colombia’s strength lies in its diversity. High elevations, varied microclimates, and a deep culture of innovation have made it a breeding ground for expressive coffees—especially in the last decade. Producers are refining fermentation techniques, experimenting with naturals and extended washes, and cultivating varietals like Gesha,
Papayo, and Pink Bourbon with remarkable results.
This set leans into that diversity, featuring coffees that span clean and classic to bold and experimental—without losing a sense of balance or drinkability.
What to Expect Inside the Box
Each set includes 50g jars of coffee—enough for two to three brews—giving you space to taste, explore, and even revisit your favorites. Spread the experience across 8 days, cup them in a single weekend with friends, share them with family, or save them for special mornings when you want something extraordinary in your cup. The format is intentionally flexible—this is about exploration, not schedule pressure.
Inside, you’ll find:
- 8 unique single-origin coffees
- 8 roasters we love and have we’ve previously featured in the club
- A mix of processing styles including washed, natural, anaerobic, thermal shock and even a fun co-ferment
- Representation from a diversity of Colombian regions, farms & producers, including Samuel Diego Bermudez, Inmaculada Coffee Farms, Café Granja La Esperanza, Edinson Argote, El Vergel and more.
And because this set includes only coffees I’d personally consider remarkable, you’re not just getting a sampler—you’re getting a curated highlight reel of some of the most exciting coffees you can find coming out of Colombia.
Inside the Taste of Colombia Set
Here are the coffees included in the set, each offering a distinct expression of Colombian coffee:
Victor Bermudez Gesha (Morningsong)
From Acevedo in Huila, this Gesha lot from producer Victor Bermúdez reflects meticulous post-harvest work designed to let the variety speak clearly. The coffee undergoes a multi-stage washed process—starting with 48–72 hours of open in-cherry fermentation, then floating, depulping, sealed underwater fermentation, and extended drying on raised beds—to cultivate a clean, expressive profile. In the cup, it’s characterized by delicate jasmine tea brightness, candied eucalyptus, and fresh blackberry, offering a pristine and floral clarity that highlights both the variety and careful processing. It is one of the best Geshan coffees I’ve had in a long time.
Edinson Argote Orange Bourbon (Little Buffalo)
From Edinson Argote’s Quebraditas Farm in Huila, this Orange Bourbon lot pushes the envelope on washed processing. Using a specialized thermal shock method—precise temperature treatments during fermentation and washing—this coffee transforms the traditional washed profile into something more vibrant and expressive. On the cupping table, the clarity is striking, with big citrus character and juicy sweetness that leans toward pink grapefruit, Aperol-like brightness, orange blossom, and ripe mango. It’s a clean, energetic coffee that challenges expectations of what washed lots can deliver, and it sets a high bar for expressive processing.
Inmaculada Papayo Washed (modcup)
This washed Papayo from Inmaculada Farms, roasted by Modcup, highlights how clarity and sweetness can coexist in a medium-bodied cup. The Papayo variety—a rarer Colombian varietal known for its expressive fruit qualities—appears here with bright citrus, delicate floral notes reminiscent of chamomile and white peach, and a clean, balanced finish. This coffee is a great representation from one of Colombia’s top farms featuring a unique and exciting varietal.
Jhon Didier Trujillo Washed Chiroso (Poem Roasting)
This lot from producer Jhon Didier Trujillo offers a beautifully balanced look at Colombia’s classic profiles with a refined edge. This Chiroso delivers a clean, juicy cup with lifted bright red fruit, gentle citrus, and a smooth, tea-like body that keeps things engaging from first sip to finish. Poem’s roast leans into clarity and definition, letting the coffee’s intrinsic sweetness and nuanced acidity shine without distraction. It’s an approachable, expressive coffee that exemplifies how thoughtful processing and attentive roasting can elevate an everyday Colombian washed lot into something distinctly memorable.
Candy Blast (Colorfull)
Candy Blast is one of those coffees that leans into fun without sacrificing specialty quality. Sourced from Caturra and Colombia varieties processed at El Vergel farms, this co-fermented washed lot was developed with an unconventional twist—fermenting with watermelon candy to create an intensely sweet and fruit-forward cup. In the mug, the profile leans delightfully into nerds, watermelon candy, macerated berries, and light florals, riding a bright acidity and balanced body that keeps it juicy rather than cloying. It’s playful and memorable, a coffee that doesn’t just showcase Colombia’s versatility but also highlights how creative processing can yield expressive, candy-like sweetness without gimmick.
Café Granja La Esperanza – Finca Potosí Natural (La Cabra)
From the original Granja farm in the Valle del Cauca, this natural-processed San Juan varietal reflects both terroir and thoughtful post-harvest work. The Herrera family and their team push boundaries with long in-cherry fermentation and controlled drying to manage the region’s humid climate, resulting in a coffee where bright, high-altitude acidity sits alongside soft ripe fruit and rich sweetness. It’s a nuanced natural that balances juicy fruit character with a heavier sweetness—classic traits of a well-executed Colombian natural that reward careful brewing.
Luis Edgar Camacho Washed Pink Bourbon (Aviary)
Pink Bourbon continues to be one of Colombia’s most compelling varietals, and this washed example highlights why. The cup is vibrant and articulate, with layered sweetness and clarity that shines in pour-over. It’s a great reference point for how refined washed Colombian coffees can be today.
Luna Bermudez (Hydrangea)
Luna Bermúdez is one of those rare coffees that exists in almost legendary territory: tiny lots, meticulous processing, and a price point that reflects both scarcity and craft. Produced by Samuel Diego Bermúdez—a name that has become synonymous with precision and quality in Colombia—this Gesha lot comes from an exceptionally limited harvest, making it genuinely exclusive on the global stage. In the cup, it delivers silky elegance, perfume-like aromatics, and remarkably nuanced acidity that unfolds like a carefully composed tasting flight. It’s a coffee that isn’t just about rarity for rarity’s sake; its complexity and depth justify the premium, and every sip feels like a window into why coffees like this command some of the highest prices in the specialty world.
