S’mores Mocha Old Fashioned Recipe

Andrew Pautler

S'mores Mocha Old Fashioned

This coffee-forward cocktail masterfully combines three of the best indulgences: the robust flavor of coffee, the nostalgic sweetness of s’mores, and the timeless sophistication of an Old Fashioned. The rich, smooth essence of bourbon seamlessly mingles with the bold intensity of freshly brewed espresso. This perfect pairing is elevated by the luscious addition of chocolate syrup and bitters, which enhance the cocktail’s complexity with deep cocoa notes. The drink is crowned with a luxurious marshmallow espresso sauce, adding a delightful, toasty sweetness that evokes the comforting flavors of a classic s’more. The end result is a decadent and indulgent coffee cocktail, beautifully balanced with the warmth of bourbon, the invigorating kick of espresso, and the sweet, creamy delight of marshmallows and chocolate. Each sip offers a harmonious blend of flavors, making it an unforgettable treat for any cocktail enthusiast.

Key Ingredients for the S’mores Mocha Old Fashioned

Let’s break down the components of this dessert-forward cocktail:

  • Bourbon: The smooth and robust foundation of the S’mores Mocha Espresso Old Fashioned, bourbon brings notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak. Its warmth and depth perfectly complement the rich chocolate and bold espresso flavors, creating a harmonious and indulgent cocktail.
  • Chocolate Syrup: This rich cocoa-forward syrup adds a luscious chocolate flavor to the cocktail, enhancing its dessert-like quality. While you can use a traditional chocolate syrup, I tend to make this one with only cocoa powder and hot water to make sure it integrates seamlessly into the drink and avoid the drink becoming overly sweet.
  • Chocolate Bitters: Infused with the essence of cocoa, chocolate bitters add a sophisticated touch of bitterness and depth. These bitters elevate the chocolate and bourbon flavors, adding complexity and a hint of spice to the cocktail.
  • Espresso: The bold and intense flavor of freshly brewed espresso provides a rich coffee backbone to the cocktail. Its deep, aromatic profile balances the sweetness of the chocolate syrup and the warmth of the bourbon, resulting in a perfectly balanced sipper.
  • Marshmallow Espresso Sauce: This luscious sauce combines the sweet, creamy notes of marshmallow with the rich flavor of espresso, adding a unique and indulgent twist to the cocktail. Drizzled over the drink, it enhances the s’mores experience, making each sip a delightful blend of flavors and textures.
