TIMEMORE’s Black Mirror line has become one of the more recognizable scale families in specialty coffee, but the new Black Mirror Dot takes the concept in a completely different direction. Instead of adding a bigger display or more controls, TIMEMORE essentially removed the interface altogether and shrunk the scale down to an almost comically small 80mm circle that weighs just 50 grams.
The first time I saw the Dot, my reaction was basically: Wait, that’s the entire scale?
It’s roughly the footprint of a post-it note or drink coaster, yet underneath that tiny platform is a 0.1g-precision scale, Bluetooth connectivity, dedicated pour-over and espresso modes, live flow-rate tracking and integration with TIMEMORE’s brewing app.
The catch? There’s no screen. Your phone becomes the display.
That makes the Dot a very different proposition from something like the Black Mirror Basic 3. It probably won’t be the scale everyone wants sitting on their coffee bar, but for travel, compact espresso setups, and anyone interested in tracking their brews through an app, it’s one of the more interesting little pieces of coffee gear TIMEMORE has released.
Features of the Timemore Black Mirror Dot
The Dot is built around a pretty simple idea: strip a coffee scale down to the essentials, make it incredibly portable, and move the more advanced brewing data onto your phone. TIMEMORE describes it as shrinking brew technology until the scale essentially disappears into your workflow.
Ultra-Compact Design
This is easily the Dot’s defining feature. It measures just 80 × 80 × 14mm and weighs 50g without the silicone cover. Even with the cover attached, the total weight is only 77g.
Those numbers almost don’t communicate how small it actually feels. I couldn’t believe how small and light it was the first time I used it. Most coffee scales are something you have to make room for in a travel kit. The Dot feels more like something you just throw in.
0.1g Precision
Despite the tiny footprint, the Dot still delivers the precision you’d expect from a dedicated coffee scale. It measures from 0.2g up to 1,200g with 0.1g resolution, giving it enough range for weighing beans, espresso, and most normal pour-over recipes.
No Built-In Display
This is the feature that will probably determine whether you love or hate the Dot. There is no traditional display on the scale. Instead, brewing information is sent via Bluetooth to the TIMEMORE app, where your phone becomes the interface. The app can show weight and brew data in real time while also recording the brew. It’s a clever way to make the hardware dramatically smaller, but it also means the Dot isn’t really designed to operate as a conventional standalone coffee scale.
Rechargeable Battery
Inside is a 300mAh rechargeable battery charged via USB-C. TIMEMORE estimates approximately 180 five-minute brews per charge, which should translate into plenty of use between charges for most people. I’ve been using the scale for over 2 months now and haven’t had to charge it yet.
TIMEMORE App Integration
Removing the screen makes the app much more important here than it is with other Black Mirror scales. Once connected, you can see your brew in real time, monitor live flow rate, access brew history, build recipes, save and share them, and work with TIMEMORE’s Pro Recipes and Coffee Coach features.
While some may not love the requirement of using an app with the scale—and it was a bit of a workflow switch for me—the app is incredibly easy to connect to and was very easy to use.
Dedicated Pour-Over & Espresso Modes
The Dot includes dedicated timer modes for pour-over and espresso, allowing the app experience to adapt to the type of coffee you’re making.
That versatility is particularly interesting considering the size. The 80mm footprint makes it small enough to fit comfortably beneath many espresso setups while still being large enough to support compact pour-over brewers and servers.
Bluetooth 5.2
The Dot connects using Bluetooth 5.2, with TIMEMORE specifically highlighting low-latency real-time syncing between the scale and app. While there is maybe just a hair of a delay compared to a normal scale, the response time between scale and app did feel quicker than other Bluetooth-connected devices I’ve used in the past.
The Dot is offered in black, white, green, blue, and pink, which is a surprisingly fun departure from the mostly black-and-white aesthetic we’re used to seeing from coffee scales.
What’s in the Box
TIMEMORE keeps the package appropriately compact. In the box, you get:

That case is a small detail I really appreciate. This scale makes the most sense when you start thinking about travel, and having a fitted case means it can actually live in a coffee kit without worrying about damaging the weighing platform.
What I Love About the TIMEMORE Black Mirror Dot
- It’s ridiculously small. This is obviously the headline feature, but you don’t really appreciate an 80mm, 50g coffee scale until you have one in front of you. It takes up virtually no room and is easily one of the most travel-friendly scales I’ve come across.
- It doesn’t sacrifice the interesting stuff. TIMEMORE could have made this nothing more than a tiny Bluetooth scale, but you still get 0.1g precision, live flow rate, brew history, recipes, and dedicated espresso and pour-over functionality. There’s a surprising amount packed into something this small.
- The app makes more sense here. I’ve used plenty of “smart” coffee gear where opening an app feels like an unnecessary extra step. With the Dot, the app is fundamental to the design. Moving the display and controls to a device you’re probably already carrying is exactly what allows the physical scale to be this small.
- It’s almost perfect for a travel setup. Pair this with an AeroPress, compact hand grinder, and travel kettle and you can build a genuinely capable brewing setup that takes up very little space. TIMEMORE’s own product brief specifically positions the Dot around bringing the same intentional brewing to a mountain trail as your kitchen counter, and that’s probably where the concept makes the most sense.
- It should be great for tight espresso setups. An 80mm diameter and 14mm height open up a lot of possibilities underneath espresso machines where larger scales simply don’t fit.
What Is Lacking in the TIMEMORE Black Mirror Dot
- There’s no screen. This is both the reason the Dot is so interesting and its biggest limitation. If you want to grab a scale, weigh 18g of coffee and start brewing without finding your phone, the Dot adds friction rather than removing it.
- I wish there were a basic standalone mode. Even a tiny weight readout would make the Dot much more versatile. I understand why TIMEMORE eliminated the display—the whole point is minimal size—but being able to use it as a basic scale without the app would make it easier to recommend as an everyday scale rather than a specialized one.
- The 1,200g capacity creates some limitations. It’s plenty for espresso, AeroPress and most single-cup pour-over setups, but heavier servers and larger brews could push you toward the maximum pretty quickly. If batch brewing is your priority, one of TIMEMORE’s larger scales makes more sense.
Recommended Use Cases
Travel
At only 50g and roughly the diameter of a coaster, it almost disappears inside a travel coffee kit—and TIMEMORE includes a fitted case specifically for carrying it. If you travel with an AeroPress, compact dripper, or hand grinder, the Dot gives you a real coffee scale without dedicating much additional space or weight to it.
Espresso
Its 14mm profile and 80mm footprint should fit into some extremely tight drip-tray situations, while 0.1g resolution and app-based timer functionality give you the data you need to track shots.
Pour-Over
Beyond simply displaying weight and time, the app can visualize your brew, show live flow rate, save brew history, and let you build and share recipes.
I wouldn’t necessarily choose an 80mm scale as my first option for a large Chemex or batch brewer, but for a V60, AeroPress or other compact single-cup setup, it’s a great combination.
Overall Thoughts
The TIMEMORE Black Mirror Dot is weird in the best possible way.
Most new coffee scales compete by adding features to the scale itself. TIMEMORE went the opposite direction: remove the screen, remove almost all of the physical interface, move the data to your phone, and make the hardware unbelievably small.
That approach won’t work for everyone. In fact, if you don’t want your phone involved in your morning coffee routine, I can tell you right now that I’d choose the Black Mirror Basic 3 instead.
But that’s also why I don’t think the Dot needs to replace a normal coffee scale.
As a travel scale, compact espresso scale, or ultra-portable second scale, the concept makes a lot more sense. It’s tiny enough that bringing it along requires almost no thought, yet you’re still getting legitimate brewing tools like 0.1g precision, flow-rate tracking, brew history, and recipe functionality.
And there’s just something undeniably cool about having this much coffee scale packed into something that looks like it should hold a pair of earbuds.
The Bottom Line
The TIMEMORE Black Mirror Dot isn’t trying to be your typical coffee scale—and that’s exactly what makes it interesting. At just 80mm wide and 50g in weight, it’s almost absurdly compact, yet still delivers 0.1g precision, Bluetooth connectivity, and a surprisingly deep app experience. I wouldn’t choose it over a traditional Black Mirror for everyone, especially if you don’t want to brew with your phone nearby, but for travel, espresso, or anyone who loves exceptionally compact coffee gear, the Dot is a really clever little scale that feels unlike almost anything else in TIMEMORE’s lineup.
